Silkstone Barbies - Barbie Fashion Model Collection
My Vintage Barbies
The Barbie Fashion Model collection debuted in 2000 with the release of the Lingerie Barbies. These exquisite dolls are made of Silkstone®, which is a superior vinyl type product which was a big breakthrough for Mattel. They look much like a porcelain doll and are heavier than your standard Barbie. (Other Barbie’s are made of a much softer vinyl.) The sculpting of this doll was taken from the original #1 ponytail doll that was released in 1959. The Fashion Model doll stands in a model pose that is permanent.
Their couture style clothing ensembles are also made of fine fabrics, much like the early vintage Barbie doll clothes. Attention to detail is extremely important from the tiny, handcrafted jewelry to the miniature accessories. They have become a highly collectible doll. Design Director, Robert Best and his team led the creation of these amazing dolls, their fashions, and accessories.
The first two dolls were release in 2000: Lingerie (blonde) #1 and Lingerie (Brunette) #2. The brunette being the hardest of the two to find. Followed in the same year was the dressed doll Delphine and two fashion ensembles Garden Party and Lunch at the Club. The final doll in the Fashion Model collection is The Galas Best (2020).
