856 Party Set (1960)

This hard to find and very first gift set includes a #3 or #4 Ponytail Barbie doll dressed in her black and white striped swimsuit, pearl earrings (or gold hoop earrings), with black open toe heels and sunglasses. The set included a black wire stand (or black pedestal stand) and 5 outfits; #911 Golden Girl (dress and graduated pearl necklace only), #966 Plantation Bell (dress, underskirt, and pale pink shoes only) #969 Suburban Shopper (dress, and hat only) & #977 Silken Flame (dress, gold belt and gold clutch purse). #919 undergarments (white bra and white panites). The set also comes with the 1960 pink Barbie booklet with only Barbie on the front. the box is marked ©1959, 1960 Mattel, Inc., Hawthorne, Calif. Stock No. 856. Note: this set has also been found with blue bra and panties and not the white.
857 Barbie Mix 'n Match Gift Set (1960)

This wonderful 1960's gift set has everything Barbie needs to make 70 different combinations of outfits. Included in the set is a #3 or #4 Ponytail Barbie doll wearing a striped swimsuit and pearl stud earrings (or gold hoop earrings). She comes with sunglasses, and black open-toe heels. In 1960 and 1962 the outfits and partial outfits included in the set are all from the 900 series ensembles which are #919 Undergarments (bra and panties), #963 Resort Set (jacket, shorts, t-shirt, hat) #976 Sweater Girl (orange sweater top, matching cardigan sweater, gray flannel skirt), #975 Winter Holiday (leather coat, hooded tee-shirt, black knit pants, travel bag), #981 Busy Gal (red and white blouse), and #967 Picnic Set (jeans and red checked shirt). There was also a crystal necklace and black pedestal or wire stand.The set also comes with the 1960 pink Barbie booklet with only Barbie on the front and a black wire stand (or black pedestal stand). The 23x 12 box is marked ©1959, 1960 Mattel, Inc, Hawthorne, Calif. Stock No 857.

The 1960 and 1962 set are identical except in 1962 the doll was a #5 or #6, she wore a wrist tag, and had a pink Barbie and Ken Booklet. This photo is actually the 1962 set.
858 Barbie Trousseau Set (1960)

This set is amazing. It's like a double gift set! It has everything Barbie needs for her wedding day and Honeymoon. Included in the set is the 1960 #3 or #4 Ponytail Barbie in her black and white swimsuit, pearl earrings (or gold hoop earrings) with black open toe heels and sunglasses. Also there is #912 Cotton Casual, #916 Commuter set (except with the gay parisienne hat instead of the commuter hat) #919 Undergarments (panties, bra and girdle only), #961 Evening Splendor, #963 Resort Set, #965 Nightly Negligee (nightgown, robe, slippers only) #972 Wedding Day #975 Winter Holiday (just the leotard), and #977 Silken Flame. There is a comb, brush and mirror too. The set also comes with the 1960 pink Barbie booklet with only Barbie on the front. There is a black wire stand (or black pedestal stand) as well.
