#3/4 transitional Ponytail Barbie
The 1959 number 1 #850 Ponytail Barbie has pointy high eyebrows, red lips, white irises, black eyeliner, side glancing eyes, and blonde or brunette hair. Some of the early #1's had hand painted faces. She has holes in the bottom of her feet with copper tubing to fit in the prongs of her stand that was made especially for the #1. She has a heavy solid body that may have faded to an ivory color. Her scalp is flocked under her hair. In her ™ box she came dressed in a black and white swimsuit, with gold hoop earrings, sunglasses with blue lenses, black open toe heels with holes in the soles for the stand, and pink booklet with Barbie's picture on the front. There were twice as many blonde #1 and #2 Ponytail Barbie's than brunettes. The dolls are marked: Barbie T.M. Pats. Pend. ©MCMLVIII by Mattel Inc.

Disclaimers
The 1960 number 3 #850 Ponytail has red lips, blue irises, blue or brown eyeliner (blue being more rare), blonde or brunette hair. Her eyebrows have a softer curve to them. She has a heavy solid body that may have faded to an ivory. Her scalp is flocked under her hair with soft bangs. She is dressed in a black and white swimsuit. Some dolls came wearing pearl earrings or had a factory braid. #1, #2 and #3 bodies tend to smell like crayons. She is marked: Barbie T.M. Pats. Pend. ©MCMLVIII by Mattel Inc.
The 1960 number 4 #850 Ponytail was the same as #3 except with blue eyeliner only. She has red lips, blue irises, and blonde or brunette hair. Her scalp is flocked under her hair and has soft curly bangs. She's on the heavy solid body, but her new body doesn't fade anymore. Mattel changed the vinyl they used in the dolls. Some #4's have a factory braided ponytail. The #4 stand is the same as the #2 and #3 stand except the #4 has the ® symbol instead of the ™ symbol. Some later #4's have a wire stand. This is the final year the T.M. symbol was used in her marking after the word Barbie. She is marked: Barbie T.M. Pats. Pend. ©MCMLVIII by Mattel Inc.
